The Kitten’s first presence in Annecy

Shiva Sadegh Asadi’s “the kitten” which is one the latest Kanoon’s production has been selected to vie at the short film competition of the 37th Annecy international film festival.

Founded in 1960, the Annecy blends efficiently arts and commerce. Its short film competition is a trademark; Annecy Winners may go a long way. Awarded short films become eligible entries to the Oscar Best Animated Short category.

The 2013 Festival which will be held from 10th to 15th June has received 2461films and selected 236. This year’s selection of feature films stands out for the diversity of the geographical origins of the films: South Africa, Brazil, India, Mexico, Russia and Canada in addition to Japan, the USA, France and many others.

This year’s festival is expected to be full of remarkable events such as Poland as the guest country, rewarding a special Cristal Award for one of the Masters of Polish animation Jerzy Kucia and celebrating the importance of his work.

The festival is composed of competition and out of competition sections with the following categories. Feature films, Short films, TV and commissioned films, Graduation films.

The jury members have the delicate task of choosing among the competing films and awarding 18 official prizes, including the Cristal for short films, the Cristal for feature films, Special Jury Award, “Jean-Luc Xiberras” Award for a first film, Junior Jury Award for a short film, Unicef Award and Fipresci Award.

It should be noted that two short animated films of “Shangool & Mangool” by Farkhondeh Torabi and Seyed Morteza Ahadi and “The story of Apple ” by Seyed Mozafar Sheydaee were respectively screened in Panorama section of the 2000 and 2002 Annecy festival.
